As global professionals increasingly choose their next destination, Athens stands out as one of the most budget-friendly cities for expats in 2025.

A recent report by Remitly, a digital remittance service, places Athens seventh globally for relocation affordability, offering an ideal mix of quality living and low costs. The study evaluated over 40 major cities, considering expenses like visa fees, six months’ rent, utilities, groceries, transportation, and basic furnishings.

Relocating to Athens costs an estimated £5,703 (≈€6,780). Key expenses include:

Bangkok tops the list as the most affordable city, with relocation costs around £3,600 (≈€4,200). Six months’ rent in Bangkok averages £1,500 (≈€1,750), utilities and internet cost about £381 (≈€445), and furnishing a home runs approximately £392 (≈€455). Bangkok blends modern amenities with rich cultural heritage, enhancing its appeal.

Other top affordable cities include Kuala Lumpur (2nd), Budapest (3rd), Mexico City (4th), Taipei (5th), Istanbul (6th), Tokyo (8th), Málaga (9th), and Valencia (10th).
